The Rotary Club of Westerville recognized its December 2023 Students of the Month during its Dec. 14 luncheon meeting at The Medallion Club.

Throughout the school year, from October through May, the Club honors four students from local high schools each month.

Working with the school principals and counselors, one student each month is chosen from Westerville Central, Westerville North, Westerville South and St. Francis DeSales high schools. The students, their parents, and the school administrators are introduced and honored at a Rotary Club luncheon each month.

December 2023 Honoree Profiles

Westerville Central: Morgan Birely’s favorite subjects are Advanced Placement Physics, Engineering and Painting. The senior is vice president of WCHS Theatre Troupe 6750, advisor for Letters of the ‘Ville as part of the National Honor Society and a co-founder of WCHS’ Climbing Club. She received a varsity letter in Theatre and has earned WCHS’ Academic Award for the past three years. She plans to study mechanical engineering at Purdue University, Kent State University or Miami University. “Thank you for this amazing opportunity and I really appreciate my family for always supporting me!”

Westerville North: Christian Collins’ favorite subjects are history, math and race and ethnic studies. The senior competes in the school’s golf team and is a member of the Superintendent’s Advisory Council. He is also involved in hockey and Westerville Public Safety cadets. Among his awards and accolades: a two-time Warrior Way Award recipient, a scholar athlete and various academic achievements. He plans to study criminal justice at Kentucky State University, Bowling Green State University, Fisk University or North Carolina Central University.

Westerville South: Sophia Wright’s favorite classes are science and math. The senior is editor of The Scribe student newspaper and is a member of Interact club, Power to Poets club and the Black History Month celebration. She is a recipient of a Cats with Class award and was among 20 students in the district who have been selected to the College Board National African American Recognition Program. She plans to study neuroscience at Denison University, Ohio State University or the University of Chicago.

St. Francis DeSales: Isabella Carfagna’s favorite subjects are psychology and English. The senior is a member of Student Council and Run the Race Club as well as competes in the school’s lacrosse team. She is involved with the nonprofit, Morgan’s Message, and the Love One International ministry group. She served as senior captain on her lacrosse team and was named second team All State and first team All Region. She plans to study elementary education/special education with a minor in psychology.
